Singapore Sapphire by A.M. Stuart – 363 pages

This was a mystery set in Singapore in the early 1900’s. The main character, Harriet Gordon, is a young widow who lives with her brother, a priest, at a small private school for boys. The mystery begins with the murder of a wealthy man of the town. He had hired Harriet to type his memoirs. There is a cast of interesting characters who are engaging. It was not quite a “beach” novel, but a delightful read overall.
