The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon by Stephen King – 262 pages

I have only read one other book by Stephen King and did not enjoy it. A friend, knowing this, suggested this one was different, so I gave it a read. It was worth the time! A young girl is on a hike with her recently divorced mother and teenage brother. They are arguing. She leaves the main path and gets lost. Trisha is a rabid Red Sox baseball fan and her hero on the team is Tom Gordon. The book traces her terrifying travels through the forest for days. One of her mind’s coping mechanisms is having Tom Gordon accompany her. This is a riveting story and the courage and resourcefulness of this nine-year-old is amazing. This novel gave me a more positive opinion of Stephen King.
